Instagram Story
Instagram Stories are 24-hour vertical posts that appear at the top of the Instagram app — primarily a tool for engaging existing followers rather than reaching new ones.
Stories occupy the top strip of the Instagram interface and are seen mostly by existing followers. Unlike feed posts and Reels, they rarely appear to non-followers, so their job is engagement and depth, not reach. Common uses: behind-the-scenes content, polls and Q&A stickers, link traffic via story links, and timely announcements.
Stories can be saved permanently as Highlights, which sit on the brand’s profile as themed collections. A brand that uses Highlights well treats them as a structured FAQ / portfolio surface — first-time profile visitors can browse them like a mini-website.
Stories are where engaged followers spend time. A brand that publishes Reels for reach but ignores Stories misses the conversion layer where the audience that already likes you decides whether to deepen the relationship.
