Instagram Business account

An Instagram Business account is the account type required to access Meta’s Graph API for Instagram — analytics, scheduling, direct publishing, and inbox management.

Instagram has three account types: Personal (the default), Creator (for influencers), and Business (for brands). Only Business and Creator accounts can connect to third-party tools via the official Graph API. Personal accounts cannot be scheduled to, published to, or connected to analytics tools.

Conversion is free and reversible: switch the account to Business in Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account, then connect to a Facebook Page (Instagram requires the Page link for API access). The conversion sometimes loses some old analytics; everything going forward is API-accessible.

Why it matters

Without a Business account, none of the operational tooling — scheduling, analytics, automated replies — is available. The 30-second conversion is a prerequisite for any serious Instagram workflow.
