Comment interception
Comment interception is the practice of monitoring competitor or category-relevant posts for engagement signals (questions, complaints, purchase intent) and replying authentically with a value-add response.
The tactic, when done well, looks like genuine community engagement: someone on a competitor’s post asks a question the competitor doesn’t address; the intercepting brand drops a helpful answer that surfaces their relevant capability without being salesy. Done poorly it looks like spam, and platforms increasingly downrank or block accounts that pattern-match to interception spam.
Operational implementations use social listening to surface the right comments, AI to draft on-voice responses, and human review before publish — interception without voice review is the most common failure mode, producing a wave of off-brand drive-by replies.
Done with voice integrity, comment interception is one of the highest-ROI organic growth tactics. Done without it, it’s reputation damage at scale.
